Mad Birds – a hand crafted mobile disco game

“Mad Birds” the Ultimate Disco Game

After many years of having a wild disco life, we decided it would only be fair to share the experience with our fans. So we went on a journey to create the ultimate Disco Experience: “MAD BIRDS”

After many years of having a wild disco life, we decided it would only be fair to share the experience with our fans. So we went on a journey to create the ultimate Disco Experience: “MAD BIRDS”

Mad Birds is an explosion of creativity, a mash-up of fashion, disco and technology  wrapped up in a digital playful experience where the player calls the shots. With specialized versions for mobile and tablets it will deliver an authentic feel on all platforms. An Interactive Video Clip hand-crafted by Terry Poison, featuring the band gliding through a shiny sequin-filled disco world collecting “magic capsules” for points, all the while jamming out to their new single “Made Birds”

The rules are simple: users control Terry Poison band members by gliding them through the night, collecting points by gathering as many “magic capsules” as possible. But the more capsules players collect, the more blurry the screen becomes, you start hallucinating  and it gets hard to fly without crashing into a building… (just like in life) Luckily there are also bottles of water you can catch to get down and make the flying easier, but then you also loose points.

How it works:
The Video Clip is divided into interactive parts and non-interactive parts.
The Non-interactive parts are made from filmed material of the hand-crafted art, green screen footage warped together by compositing.
The interactive parts are made from 3D animation that resembles the filmed footage. The interactive parts appear 3 times throughout the clip.
In these parts the user will try to get as many points as possible by collecting “magic capsules”.
The amount of points collected in the interactive parts decides which level of visual experience the user will get in the non-interactive parts. If the user played really well and grabbed a lot of “magic capsules”, he/her will get awarded with a get a crazy visual experience and wild hallucinations . If the user did less well, the visual appear less exciting. This way, the user might want to play the game a few times in order to see all the possible visual effects and madness.
The gaming parts become more and more difficult throughout the song, where you have to control more birds and the density of the amount of “magic capsules” increase along with its strength.

On the inspiration for building the videogame app:

“The band’s inspiration stems from our various backgrounds in music, fine arts, fashion and technology,” says Terry Poison. “Our home base of Tel Aviv has the world’s highest concentration of start-ups, so just by walking down the street one is most likely to return with some new possible collaboration and an insane idea. Magic happens when people from different worlds team up.”

The Video game’s Indiegogo campaign brought lots of noise in various Gaming Blogs and in fashion magazine’s world wide. And Terry Poison presented the game in Game IS, the Israeli gaming conference Dec. 2013 and participated in a google event in Silicon Valley in June 2013.

kokoTerry Poison has so far raised money from Indie-Gogo but also from institutions such as Singularity University and Baron Media. The interactive video is 60% ready, still needs programming of the Unity 3D animation and finally wrapping everything up by compositing. We hope to release the project in April 2014.
